I wasn’t sure what to put here, so I sat down with Brian to find out more about him.
Here is what was revealed:
Brian: Thanks for letting me sit down and get inside your mind for a while.
Me: Hey no problem, glad to do it.
Brian: So first off, what is it about programming that you enjoy so much?
Me: For me, it’s really about using my imagination. Nothing gets me more excited than coming up with a solution that is elegant, reusable, easily maintainable, and is robust enough to be only limited by the imagination of a business analyst. I sleep well on those nights.
Brian: What projects have you been working on?
Me: I have been working on everything from asp.net websites using c#, SSID solutions for Financial calculations reporting, integrating data feeds into between disparate third party applications using web services for portfolio pricing – and everything in between.
Brian: How does your current environment compare to the “normal” application development environment?
Me: It is absolutely different. I have really had to grow into my role. There is a lot of accountability being the one ultimately responsible for the IT decisions. It has it’s perks as well – I am able to design the systems and applications, and go back and refactor them as needed for maintainability.
It’s such a small company – I end up acting as project manager, quality assurance manager, business analyst, and developer. It’s very demanding, but I think my co-workers grasp the challenges that IT faces in this environment.
My career started out in start-up company, so I am very much used to adapting, and getting things done.
Brian: Well, sounds like you are keeping yourself busy! Thanks for taking the time to chat.
Me: Anytime. My pleasure.
